Moghul carpets
The Mughal commission was a series of four carpets. The original designs were undertaken during the Moghul periods of Akbar and Shah Jahan. I researched the originals and, using vegetable dyes in 15th and 16th century colours, we prepared the wool and silk. The designs were then translated from hand drawn cartoons to a script called the taleems which were chanted instructions by the head weaver to his fellow weavers. Examples of the taleems and colour cards are illustrated. The carpets are over 300 knots to the square inch.
