Amelia Earhart was an American aviation pioneer. She was the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
She wrote three best selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of ’The Nonety Niners’, an organisation of female pilots.
She disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in July 1937 whilst attempting to become the first woman to complete a circumnavigational flight of the globe. She was officially declared dead 18 months later.
